Questions
Things people ask at the counter.
Anything else, ring the workshop. Someone who does the tests will answer.
When is my first MOT due?
Three years after the car was first registered, then every year after that. The date is on your last MOT certificate, or check it free on the GOV.UK MOT history service.
How early can I book it?
Up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out, and you keep the same renewal date. Book in the last few weeks and you lose nothing.
What happens if it fails?
We give you the failure sheet, explain each item in plain English and quote for the repairs. You're free to take it elsewhere. Leave it with us and the partial retest within 10 working days is free.
Can I drive away after a fail?
Only if your old MOT is still valid and nothing on the sheet is marked dangerous. If it is, we'll talk through the options, including the courtesy car.
Do I need to stay while it's tested?
No. Most people drop the car at 8am and collect after lunch. If you'd rather wait, a test takes 45 to 60 minutes and the kettle's on.
Do you test vans and motorhomes?
We test class 4 vehicles: cars, taxis and vans up to 3,000kg. Bigger motorhomes and class 7 vans need a specialist; ask and we'll point you to one.
